Mr. Charles J. Barren

Senior Executive Director - Hospitality Division

The EMCO/Hanover Group

Charles J. Barren brings to EMCO/Hanover  over twenty-five years of experience in  the hospitality industry from various prior corporate associations in Europe, the Americas and Asia in hotel operations and international marketing.  Prior to EMCO/Hanover, Mr. Barren was most recently Director of Franchise Operations for Choice Hotels International (Sleep Inns, Comfort Inns, Quality Inns, Clarion, Mainstay Suites, Econolodge and Rodeway Inns).

During his ten year relationship at Choice Hotels, Mr. Barren was also Vice President, Business Planning and Vice President, Development/Operations for Choice's company-owned and managed hotels. Mr. Barren further acted as the General Manager of The Hotel Thayer in West Point, New York under EMCO/Hanover's Executive Loan Program.

Prior to joining Choice, Mr. Barren was General Manager of two prestigious hotels in Washington, D.C. - the Radisson Park Terrace and The Omni Shoreham.  He spent seven years with Omni Hotels International at corporate headquarters and in field operations.  While at Omni he supervised over 5,000 rooms as their Vice President-Director of Operations.  Before joining Omni, Mr. Barren spent five years with the Exxon Corporation in Europe as their Director of Hotel Marketing.  At Esso Motor Hotels (now Bass PLC-U.K.), he was part of an initial team that planned, developed and operated over 60 motor hotels in ten European countries. 

Prior to Esso, Mr. Barren was Executive Vice President for Builders Investment Group, a REIT headquartered in Philadelphia, where he was responsible for managing and liquidating investments in over forty hotel properties located throughout the United States. Mr. Barren has also worked at Dunfey Hotels where he was a corporate officer and prior, at Treadway Inns plus the Home Lines, Inc. 

Mr. Barren is a member and former Director of the AHMA plus the HSMAI in the United Kingdom.  He is a Certified Hotel Administrator plus a former Director of the Hotel Association in Washington, D.C.
